PLA Filament Deals

Last reviewed

A good PLA filament deal is a 1.75mm offer with a low price per kilogram, a recent verification time and a spool that suits your printer. Compare offers by price per kg rather than by box price, and confirm the final amount on Amazon before you buy.

Four things to read on every deal card

Each offer in the grid carries more than a headline number. Before you click through, read these four details in order:

  1. Offer price. This is what Amazon was asking for the whole listing at our last check. For a two-pack or a ten-roll box, it covers every spool in the box, not one of them.
  2. Price per kg. pla.deals divides the offer price by the total net filament weight across all spools in the listing. That single figure lets a lone 1kg roll, a 3kg spool and a multipack sit side by side fairly. The price per kg explainer shows the arithmetic with worked examples.
  3. Pack size and spool type. A listing can be one spool, several spools, one oversized spool or a refill coil with no spool at all. Spool material matters if you run a multi-color feeder. ELEGOO's PLA product page (opens in a new tab) mentions adapting its cardboard spool for AMS, noting that the unit can rub the paper and make it delaminate.
  4. Verified time. Every price carries the moment it was last checked against Amazon. Once a price is more than 24 hours old, the card stops showing a number and switches to "Check price at Amazon", because a stale figure is not one you can plan around.

If two cards show a similar per kg number, the pack size and spool type usually decide which one fits you better.

When a low price is not really a deal

Some listings look cheap only because they are a different product from the spools around them. Three patterns cause most of the confusion.

Samples. Spools of 250g or less are labelled as samples here and are never placed in ranked cheapest lists. Their box price is small, but dividing that price by a quarter kilogram often produces a high per kg figure. Some lines are sold in both sizes: Creality lists Ender-PLA in 1kg and 250g weights on its filament parameter page (opens in a new tab), so a search can mix full rolls and minis.

2.85mm filament. Most desktop FDM printers sold today take 1.75mm filament, yet 2.85mm spools are still listed for machines that use the thicker size. A 2.85mm roll cannot feed a 1.75mm extruder at any price. Check the diameter in the title and on the label photo before adding it to your cart.

Mixed bundles. Bundles that pair PLA with PETG, TPU, a nozzle kit or a filament dryer blur the math. If accessories are included, dividing the bundle price by filament weight overstates what the filament costs. If materials are mixed, the per kg number blends products you would normally price apart. Sampler packs with many short lengths in different colors fall into the same trap: the number may be accurate, but the use case is not the same as buying a roll for a project.

Seasonal sales and why the timestamp matters

Filament prices on Amazon tend to move around big retail events such as Prime Day in summer, the fall Prime member event, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. During those windows a price can change several times in one day, limited-time offers can sell through, and a listing can return to its usual price as soon as the event ends.

That makes the verified time on each card more useful than usual. A price checked an hour ago is a strong signal. One checked yesterday morning, during a short promotion, may already be gone. A few habits help during sale periods:

  • Judge offers by price per kg, not by the percentage shown on Amazon. A large markdown from an inflated list price can still leave a spool costing more per kg than an ordinary multipack.
  • Glance at the verified time before clicking. If it is many hours old, expect Amazon to show something different.
  • Buy for the coming months rather than the coming years. PLA absorbs moisture over time, so a stockpile only saves money if you can keep it sealed and dry.
  • Look at who is selling. Different sellers on one listing can ship from different stock at different prices.

How to use the chips and the finder

The chips above the grid narrow the list without leaving the page:

  • Standard: plain PLA as each brand sells it, the baseline that most slicer profiles assume.
  • PLA+: modified PLA aimed at toughness. Formulations differ from brand to brand, and our PLA vs PLA+ guide explains what to compare.
  • Matte: a low-sheen finish that hides layer lines on decorative parts.
  • Silk: a glossy, metallic-looking surface for display prints.
  • Bulk: listings that add up to 2kg or more of filament, whether that is one large spool or a multipack. For larger quantities, see bulk PLA filament.
  • Under $15/kg: offers whose price per kg falls below $15, regardless of the box price. The under $15 page explains what to check at that level.

Chips apply one at a time. When you want to combine several conditions, such as a color, a brand and your printer model, open the filament finder. It filters by type, color, brand and printer together and lets you sort the results.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price on the card what I will pay at checkout?

It is the offer price Amazon showed at the verified time on the card. Coupons, shipping, tax and seller changes can make your checkout total different, so treat the card as a starting point and confirm on Amazon.

Why does a card say "Check price at Amazon" instead of a number?

That card's price has not been reconfirmed in the last 24 hours. Rather than show a figure that may be out of date, pla.deals hides it until a fresh check succeeds.

Is a PLA+ deal better value than a standard PLA deal at the same price per kg?

Only if you need what that brand's PLA+ is designed for, such as tougher functional parts. For figurines, prototypes and decorative work, standard PLA at the same price per kg is usually the simpler choice.

Should I wait for Black Friday to buy filament?

If you have enough filament to last until then, waiting costs nothing. If you need a roll this week, compare the current per kg figure with the other cards and buy what you need now rather than gambling on a future price.
